Camp Washington Documentation, 1914-1916.

Document of John E. Smith, of Reardan, Washington about the location of Camp Washington. It talks about the location of the historical marker. In 1908, the Washington State Historical Society erected a historical marker, but many historians believed it was in the wrong place, including Jacob A. Meyers. The marker was changed in 1928. The collection also includes photographs of the sites, some of which were taken by Meyers.

John E. Smith was born in Newark, New Jersey and left home at the age of fourteen as a cabin-boy when he sailed to San Francisco for the Gold Rush. In 1854, he joined the Second Oregon militia and served in the Rogue River Indian War. He engaged in a number of Indian battles in the region and he settled in Reardan. Meyers, Jacob A., 1855-1925.

Jacob A. Meyers was the son of L. W. Meyers, who operated one of the first flour mills in the Inland Northwest at Meyers Falls in 1863. Jacob Meyers joined his father in Stevens County in 1869 at the age of fourteen. Jacob Meyers later had an orchard at Meyers Falls. Because of his long association with the Inland Northwest, Meyers helped locate many locations for historic markers in the area.
